Class Levels and Abilities
Here is a guideline of how your sewing skills match the workshops. Please note there are always exceptions to the rule, so if you are unsure , please don’t hesitate to contact us at The Stitchery to chat about what is suitable for you.
New Sewist
Absolute beginner
No sewing experience (maybe you took sewing at school, but have not sewn since)
Have not used a sewing machine before
Beginner Sewist
Basic sewing experience (you have sewn in the past 2 years)
Understands the basic's of sewing, can construct a seam
Can thread a sewing machine on their own.
Confident Beginner Sewist
Confident with using a sewing machine
Has sewn a project within the last 12 months
Can construct simple projects and techniques
Has basic understanding of sewing patterns, how to measure themselves and can pick their size
Is looking to advance their sewing techniques
Intermediate Sewist
Can construct simple sewing projects and garments
Can follow a sewing pattern with confidence
Are ready to learn more advanced sewing techniques and tackle more challenging projects
Advanced Sewist
Are a confident sewer who has made numerous garments using sewing patterns
Comfortable with using a variety of fabrics
Have some experience with fitting & small pattern alterations
